How do I compare two Excel files?

Upload the old and new versions. Sheets are paired by name and values and formulas compared cell by cell; you get the changed cells, added and removed rows, and a difference report workbook.

If rows were inserted, is everything below marked as changed?

No. Rows are aligned by their whole content first, then by the first column (IDs, names); inserted and deleted rows are listed separately. Sheets over 50,000 rows are matched by row number.

Do formatting changes count?

No, only values and formulas. Dates are shown as dates, not serial numbers.
